Our spaces
Explore the distinctive spaces of the Maison de l’Océan, between historic heritage, remarkable architecture and meeting places.

The Maison de l'Océan brings together, under one roof, major players in environmental and marine protection. Scientific institutions, foundations, endowment funds and the Ocean and Climate Coalition can thus work in synergy to advance research, shape public policy and raise public awareness.
Mediterranean Science Commission
CIESM has supported multilateral research in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea since its founding in 1910. Covering a region of great geographical, cultural and geopolitical diversity, CIESM is a unique forum for scientific exchange and dialogue, bringing together thousands of researchers who pool the latest technologies and approaches to understand, monitor and protect particularly vulnerable marine ecosystems.
Drawing on its scientific independence and its ability to foster cooperation across borders, the Commission is able to champion the Basin’s priorities in marine and environmental research impartially, with the support of its 23 Member Countries.

Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation
Founded in 2006 by H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco, the Foundation is a global non-profit organisation committed to advancing planetary health for present and future generations. It co-creates initiatives and supports hundreds of projects across three priority regions: the Mediterranean Basin, the Polar Regions and the Least Developed Countries. Its main missions include preserving the ocean, safeguarding threatened species, protecting freshwater ecosystems, developing a sustainable blue economy and supporting young generations.

French Foundation for Biodiversity Research
The French Foundation for Biodiversity Research (FRB) was created in 2008, following the Grenelle environmental summit, at the initiative of the ministries responsible for research and the environment and of scientific institutions. Its mission is to foster, at national, European and international level, the development, support and coordination of biodiversity research and its uptake, across the biological, socio-economic and legal fields. It also promotes related training, awareness-raising and the dissemination of results.
The FRB is therefore not only a source of research funding but also a platform for dialogue with stakeholders, both public and private. It strengthens the impact of biodiversity research by bringing together the institutions that organise public research and stakeholders, by mobilising academic expertise and knowledge in response to societal needs, and by encouraging multidisciplinary approaches and partnerships with businesses and private research. The FRB is thus a meeting point between science and society, sharing knowledge to inform the implementation of national biodiversity policy.

Ocean & Climate Platform
The Ocean & Climate Platform brings together an international network of 120 organisations to advance knowledge and action on issues linking the ocean, climate and biodiversity. It works at the science–policy interface, drawing on the expertise of its network, producing and sharing knowledge, and shaping collective positions that it puts forward to international, European and French decision-makers.

Island Research Centre and Environmental Observatory
CRIOBE is one of France’s foremost laboratories for the study of coral reef ecosystems. Founded in 1971, CRIOBE has been, since 2013, a CNRS research and service unit bringing together lecturer-researchers, researchers and administrative and technical staff from the CNRS, the EPHE and the UPVD. Its work spans multiple disciplines – ecology, genetics, chemistry – across two main sites: the University of Perpignan campus in France and the field station on the island of Moorea in French Polynesia.

Neptune Endowment Fund
Created by Ifremer, the Neptune Endowment Fund is a public-interest fund that runs Mission Neptune, an international initiative launched at the United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3) in Nice.
With a network of more than 80 partner institutions across five continents, Mission Neptune brings together scientists, explorers, institutions, businesses and civil society to better explore, observe and understand the Ocean.
A space for international cooperation and pooled resources, it works to share knowledge and mobilise means for the preservation of the Ocean and the sustainable governance of marine areas.
